SHILLONG: Drishti Rajkhowa alias ManojRava, Deputy Commandant of ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent) along with four other cadres surrendered before the Army and the Meghalaya Police at Rongra in South Garo Hills on Wednesday morning, informed top-level sources of Meghalaya Police.

Earlier, they were pushed from Toklibari in Bangladesh by the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh). The security forces acted on Military Intelligence, added the sources.

Hailing from Goalpara district of Assam, Drishti — also known by the code word (DR) – is married to a Garo woman. He knows the entire Garo Hills like the back of his hand, and has been moving in and out of Bangladesh frequently, said Police sources. Drishti was a close associate of Sohan D Shira, the commander-in-chief of GNLA (Garo National Liberation Army) that got disbanded after Shira was killed in East Garo Hills three years ago.
